The Seattle Animal Shelter is giving pets and pet owners their best chance at health and wellness with the launch of free pet vaccination clinics in Seattle.
Access to preventative care and education are the leading determinants of pet health, wellness and safety. Yet, one in four pet owners experience barriers to veterinary care due to limited finances, according to the Access to Veterinary Care Coalition.
That’s why the Seattle Animal Shelter, a division of the Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS), has launched free drop-in pet vaccination clinics that seek to expand veterinary access and pet resources.
The program will provide free pet vaccination clinics and supplies to Seattle communities throughout 2024, starting with the first clinic on Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rainier Beach Community Center.
“For many families, access to veterinary care is their best chance at keeping their pet safe and healthy, and keeping pets in their homes—rather than making the heartbreaking decision to relinquish a pet to the shelter,” said Seattle Animal Shelter Director Esteban Rodriguez. “We’re proud to offer these clinics and to help keep pets where they belong: In the homes of the families who love and care for them.”
The first clinic will provide pet owners with free dog and cat vaccines, deworming treatments, flea treatments, microchipping, pet licensing as well as cat and dog food and supplies. Shelter staff will be onsite administering vaccines and treatments and providing pet supplies.
No registration is required to attend the clinics and interpreters will be onsite to provide assistance. The first clinic will take place at Rainier Beach Community Center and future clinics will be scheduled the third Thursday of each month at various community center locations. A full calendar of clinics will be posted to the shelter’s website in the coming weeks.
