Seattle Animal Control Officer Caryn Cantu has read the book “Make Way for Ducklings,” but on a recent workday she lived a version of the story about ducks making their way around a busy city.
Cantu responded to a report of ducklings trapped in a storm drain at Volunteer Park. The mother duck was pacing around the drain and quacking frantically.
The grate on top was too heavy to lift so Cantu smartly hooked it to the winch on her truck and pulled it off. Once opened, Cantu used a butterfly net to reach down and rescue the ducklings.
Reunited with their mother, they and Mama Mallard happily waddled on their way.
