Twelve animals – 10 dogs and two cats – will find new homes and new lives thanks to the Seattle Animal Shelter and the annual Wings of Rescue Holiday Airlift.
On Friday, Nov. 18, we joined other area animal welfare organizations to greet the Wings of Rescue transport and picked up the 12 animals that will find their forever families through SAS. We are thrilled to partner with Wings of Rescue, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that flies at-risk, healthy pets from high intake shelters to safety at shelters that have more space and ability to adopt them into new homes throughout the United States and Canada.
Are you interested in adding a Wings of Rescue dog or cat to your family? They’ll be available for adoption this weekend, as soon as they’ve had a chance to settle in and be prepared for adoption by our team. All the animals have had pre-flight vet checks and come with copies of their medical records. Some may still need to be spayed or neutered, which will happen next week. Your perfect new family pet may be in this bunch, so come on down to the shelter this weekend to meet them!
The animals came from Los Angeles County shelters that are chronically overcrowded and where almost 50 percent of cats are euthanized. Despite the dire situation, the shelter staff there work tirelessly to ensure the best outcomes for their animals and rely on programs and partnerships for added assistance. By partnering with Wings of Rescue, we help to open up space in those shelters for other animals and are literally saving lives. The dogs and cats we received came from the Downey Shelter, one of the busiest shelters in LA County, and were picked by LA -based ASPCA staff and volunteers who look for healthy, friendly, “ready to go” animals. As an approved rescue partner with the ASPCA, SAS joined the list of receiving shelters for animal transports.
